Understanding one-time event insurance

The best insurance setup depends on the event, venue, guests, activities and alcohol exposure. Local Host does not sell or broker insurance. Use a licensed California insurance professional and satisfy the venue's written requirements.

Option 1

Existing business coverage

If your business already carries commercial general liability coverage, ask your carrier whether this exact event is covered and whether the venue can be added as an additional insured when required.

Option 2

One-time special event policy

For a one-off gathering, ask a California-licensed agent or carrier for special event general liability coverage for the exact date, location, attendance and activities.

Option 3

Venue-approved coverage

Some venues have minimum limits, specific certificate wording or preferred insurance routes. Get those requirements before buying a policy so you do not pay twice.

What to ask for

  • General liability limits appropriate for the venue and event.
  • A certificate of insurance if the venue requires one.
  • Additional insured status when the venue contract requires it.
  • Liquor liability or host liquor coverage when alcohol exposure is present, depending on who sells, serves and holds the license.
  • Event cancellation or interruption coverage if losing deposits or event revenue is a meaningful risk.
  • Workers' compensation when legally required for employees working the event.

Best Local Host workflow: upload proof, keep the effective date and venue visible, and do not turn booking live until the required insurance gate is confirmed.
